Not every character in Disney Lorcana is going to hog the limelight. For every courageous hero or despicable villain, there are allies stood on the wings, lending their support. Thankfully, even the little guys of Disney are immortalised, thanks to the surpriusingly powerful Supporter mechanic.
Lend your characters aid from their allies, and with a few clever plays they could be dishing out way more damage than they ever could’ve done on their own. Here is everything you need to know about the Support mechanic.
What Is Support?
Support is an ability that is triggered when the character with it quests. When they do so, their Strength is added to any other character you choose. For example, if you had a Heihei, Boat Snack and quested with it, you would be able to give its one Strength to another character, who could then use that buff to take out an opponent’s character in a challenge.
Keep in mind supporting doesn’t happen if you exert the character for any other reason. They must quest to lend their strength to something else. However, if you have ways to make a character quest multiple times per turn, their support trigger will go off each time they quest, massively increasing the total buffing potential of supporters.
One answer currently unanswered by the official rules is whether Supporter triggers stack. If you have a way to give a character with Support another instance of Support, it isn’t known if that gives twice that character’s Strength, or whether one cancels the other out and you still only give the usual amount. This is not something we will know until the formal tournament rules are made publicly available.
How To Use Support
Support may seem like a simple mechanic, but it is full of possibilities.
On the one hand, you can just use it for its intended purpose of giving a character a small boost before it goes into a challenge. There’s nothing stopping you from choosing the same character to be the recipient of multiple supports, making it nice and big before it challenges.
On the other hand, Support can be manipulated to give a character a massive boost. Support only cares about the character’s Strength as it quests, meaning any buffs you give the supporter will carry over to the character it supports. You can even chain supports, having each character share their Power from supporter to supporter, gradually building up before being dropped on one, super-strong challenger.
Any way you can ready a character and still have it quest is powerful when using supporters. For instance, playing Work Together on an Ariel, Whoseit Collector, and questing between each item you play won’t only give you a lot of lore, it’d also give you lots of Support triggers in the process.
As we see more and more of Disney Lorcana, Support could possibly be one of the mechanics most ripe for combo potential.
