Ed Boon has confirmed that J.K. Simmons will return to reprise his role as Omni-Man when he eventually joins Mortal Kombat 1 as part of the first Kombat Pack.
A few days ago, NetherRealm Studios finally pulled back the curtain on its plans for Mortal Kombat 1's first Kombat Pack (a curtain that had already accidentally been pulled by Amazon a few months too early), revealing that Takeda, Ermac, and Quan-Chi would join the game alongside Homelander, Peacemaker, and Omni-Man as guest fighters.
As exciting as it was to see these characters getting announced for Mortal Kombat 1, there was one big question on everyone's mind - will the big three guest characters have their authentic voice actors, or are we getting another Terminator situation? Homelander and Peacemaker were clearly modelled after their respective actors, but it wasn't confirmed at the time whether they'd have their iconic voices - thankfully, it seems likely that will end up being the case, as Ed Boon has now confirmed that Omni-Man will be voiced by J.K. Simmons.
As highlighted by Skybound Games on Twitter, Ed Boon confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con after the panel that Omni-Man will indeed be voiced by J.K. Simmons in Mortal Kombat 1. NetherRealm Studios' story and voice director Dominic Cianciolo also highlighted the news, saying, "It’s been a thrill and a privilege to direct JK Simmons as Omni-Man in Mortal Kombat 1. Amazing talent, wonderful person! And for you trivia buffs, the second Oscar winner in a Mortal Kombat game…"
It stands to reason that if NetherRealm was able to get J.K. Simmons back for Mortal Kombat 1, then it will likely have been able to get John Cena and Anthony Starr for Peacemaker and Homelander too. Starr recently voiced the character for the crossover between The Boys and Call of Duty, so it would make sense for him to be up for voicing the character again. John Cena might be a little trickier to get a hold of, but fingers crossed that he's up for it.
It also seems clear that out of all of the guest characters revealed for Mortal Kombat 1, Omni-Man is the one that's furthest along currently, as he's the only one out of the three that's had his voice actor confirmed. That, combined with him being the first character to appear on-screen during the trailer and his name being first on the list, seems to suggest that we'll be seeing him first out of all of the Kombat Pack combatants, with Peacemaker not too far behind and then Homelander last.
