In a new update to its website, Rockstar added "Red Dead Redemption (Rockstar Presents Ver)" to the game list along with a logo and the codename "RDR1RSP". That's either Red Dead Redemption 1 Remaster/Remake, leaving the 'SP' up for debate, or Red Dead Redemption 1 Rockstar Presents, fitting the logo and game list name.
This backs up prior rumours and evidence of a current-gen version of the 2010 cowboy classic, such as the new Korean rating from the end of last month and the updated HD achievement icons. Evidently, something is happening with the original Red Dead, but Rockstar still hasn't announced anything as of yet.
The scope of this project is still unclear. Rumours of a Red Dead Redemption remaster have been circling since even before the GTA Trilogy was released. Leakers said it was shelved due to the trilogy's poor reception, but not entirely dead--instead, it was "taking a pause until closer/after GTA 6's launch". It might still be closer to a remaster or port, but the Korean rating hints at it being a remake. It lists a new descriptor for gore that has only been used for Doom (2016), Doom Eternal, and Red Dead Redemption 2, pointing to it using the newer engine.
Currently, the only way to play Red Dead Redemption on current-gen is via Xbox One and Series' backward compatibility. It was also playable on PS4 and PS5 via PS Plus streaming the PS3 version, but that was removed last year. Initially, fans believed this meant a remaster, port, or remake was going to be announced. While nothing came that quickly, things are finally taking shape.
Only eight days after the GTA Trilogy leaked on the Korean ratings board, the bundle was officially announced. While it has been over eight days since Red Dead Redemption was added, rumours of an imminent announcement have been swirling online, so we might find out more from Rockstar itself soon enough, especially as the website is updated in preparation.
However, fans are still worried that the Red Dead Redemption remaster/remake--whatever it may be--will end up like the GTA Trilogy, which was slated for its use of AI upscaling, removal of fog, and glitchy launch. While updates have fixed some of the more glaring problems, it's still unpopular with fans. We don't know who is developing this Red Dead Redemption remaster or if it's more than just that, so until there's official word from Rockstar, anxiety is bound to brew.
