<![CDATA[Fallout Developer Nearly Made A Lord Of The Rings Game]]> Lord of the Rings games are hit and miss, with the highs of Battle for Middle-earth being offset by the incredible lows of Conquest, where you play as Sauron taking over Middle-earth in an alternate universe where Frodo fails to destroy the Ring. That’s a cracking idea, sadly let down by the gameplay that Edge described as “ceaseless button-mashing” in its 2/10 review.

<![CDATA[Obsidian Would "Love" To Make Another Fallout Game]]> The Obsidian-developed Fallout New Vegas is perhaps the most beloved entry in the series. With Obsidian being made up of developers from the first two Fallout games, it made sense to bring them back for another outing after the third game put the series back on the map. The only problem was it was so good that loads of us want another one - something that Obsidian head Feargus Urquhart is very much aware of.

<![CDATA[Fallout New Vegas Has Better Medical Care Than The Actual USA]]> I recently started Fallout: New Vegas for the first time. I know I’m late to the party, but I wanted to dive into an older game I missed before the onslaught of triple-A launches begins in a few weeks. I gave it a go when I was a teenager, but that was on a borrowed copy so I didn’t get to the end. You all know the drill by now. You’re a courier who gets shot in the head while running a routine gig before waking up in a small-town doctor’s office. He’s kindly patched you up and sent you on your way. This is fantasy, not sci-fi, because if this were really America you’d also be saddled with a crushing amount of medical debt.

<![CDATA[Best Video Game Collectibles To Get In Real Life]]> Collectibles are one of the longest-running tropes in video games, and it's easy to understand why. As a mechanic, they keep us engaged in the downtime between bosses. As a trophy, they show off how dedicated we were to see everything a game has to offer. Above everything else though, they are pointless doodads to ascribe value to, and we need to have them all!

For one, the London Underground is now operational with "fully-rigged and animated train systems". <![CDATA[Fallout 2 Fan Releases FPS Remake]]> The original Fallout games weren't first-person shooters, but top-down, isometric, turn-based RPGs. Over the years, some have tried to bring 1 and 2 into Fallout 3's engine to give them a more modern feel, but now one fan has gone back to the second game itself and remade it in first-person, all while keeping its old sprites and maps.

One such topic is where the best place to build a settlement is. While there're probably hundreds of mods that let you choose custom locations, we're talking about the default locations today, as Fallout 4 players have been bigging up their personal favorite locations in the game on the Fallout 4 subreddit.

<![CDATA[Fallout: New Vegas Mod Makes It More Fun To Smack People With Pipes]]> Fallout: New Vegas is often lauded as one of the best Fallouts, being Obsidian's first and only foray into the world of 3D ushered in by Bethesda's third game. But, being on the older engine as with 3 and Oblivion, it has some fairly wonky animations, and so one fan has opted to add a bit more oomph to them. Specifically, to melee weapons.

<![CDATA[Fallout Fans Share The Items They Can't Help But Steal]]> Fallout 3 and New Vegas have pretty straightforward morality systems, giving you good karma for selfless deeds and bad karma for selfish ones. With any morality system, most of us will probably go for the good option unless you're someone who chooses chaos on a daily basis. Scavenging the Wastelands and helping out travellers in need is one of the best part about Fallout, although you're definitely lying if you say there isn't at least one sin you've commited whilst trying to be a goody two shoes.

<![CDATA[Fallout Fans Are Debating Which Post-Apocalyptic, Definitely Irradiated, Snack Tastes Best]]> Fallout is generally not considered a game series where the cuisine is highest on the minds of those seeking to explore the world after emerging from their respective vaults, but there's certainly a lot of food to be found in every Fallout game. Most of it is the irradiated remnants of a bygone civilization and would most certainly kill you eventually (represented in-game by increasing your rads). That doesn't make those delectable items look any less appealing, though. Sort of like those laundry pods--you know you shouldn’t, but you still really wanna gulp one of those bad boys down.

<![CDATA[Fallout 5 Should Be A Survival Horror, Not An RPG]]> Fallout is at odds with itself. On the one hand, it’s set in a post-apocalyptic retro-future where resources are scarce and people barely scrape by. On the other, it’s an RPG where shooting something in the face with a sniper rifle tends not to kill it. Has radiation hardened everyone’s bones? If the Adamantium Skeleton perk is to be believed, then yes. Maybe the original isometric games handled the balance of resources and enemy durability perfectly, but I haven’t played them yet so I don’t know. What I do know is this: Fallout should be a survival horror.

Despite being known for their RPGs, Bethesda does delve into horror every now and again in its titles - Fallout 4's Pickman Gallery and Nuka World's Grandchester Mystery Mansion are two perfect examples of that. <![CDATA[Fallout Vaults Make Repetitive Dungeons Interesting]]> Skyrim, Elden Ring, and Diablo all have pretty fun dungeons, at least to start with. You go in, slaughter a bunch of unfortunate bystanders (read: sleeping draugr and skeletons minding their own business), nick the loot, and leave. Usually, that’s all there is to it, but sometimes there’s a bigger reason to wake the dead with an axe to the cranium - this one has a dragon priest, this one has a fancy spell, and this one has an old tome that Deckard Cain needs - but they often look the exact same and share the same puzzles with limited complexity. It gets boring fast, but Fallout finds a way to turn copy-and-paste dungeon design to its advantage.

The quest marker says go south to Primm, the path says go south to Primm, and Fallout: New Vegas itself - through very obvious signposting, by having a giant rollercoaster in the distance - says please, go south to Primm.
