Throughout video games, there are a wide variety of creatures to meet and interact with. Some are hostile, others can be tamed, and everything in between. While it is nice to come across the usual squirrel or horse, some of the most fun wildlife to interact with are completely fictional.

There are plenty of video games with made up life, but some games have taken their wildlife designs to the next level. Here are some of the best animals that can be found in video games that don't exist in the real world. Even though sometimes we all wish they did.

10 Land Octopus - Elden Ring

Giant Land Octopus Elden Ring

Elden Ring doesn't pull punches with enemy designs or difficulty. In fact, even one of its smallest creatures is an interesting design that is unlike any you've seen in other games.

An undulating mass of tentacles, it takes some time to figure out what these creatures are. But upon closer inspection, you can see a beak sticking out from this blob-like creature. They, like most of the wildlife in Elden Ring, are incredibly hostile. It doesn't take much for them to get a good hit in and drop you pretty easily.

9 Aliens - Spore

Spore Creatures Roaming

There are plenty of games where you can explore the environment to meet all kinds of new creatures. But there are few games like Spore where you get to make your own wildlife.

Living on faraway fictional planets, whatever creature you create will have to survive and etch out its own habitat. No two creatures are alike, which makes the game that much easier to sink hours into. There's nothing like seeing the alien you spent hours creating walking, flying, or slithering around a planet and interacting with other animals that are just as peculiar.

8 Blupee - The Legend Of Zelda Series

Fans of The Legend Of Zelda have been around for a long time now, and while the fight between Link and Ganondorf is eternal, some animals come and go from game to game.

One creature that has appeared in multiple games is the Blupee, and it's too cute to not make the list. It's sort of a mix of an owl and a rabbit, plus it glows. What's not to love? They're silent observers and rather docile, though not friendly enough to be approached without running off. They're a great design that embodies the interesting fantasy world of Zelda.

7 Machines - Horizon Series

Wildlife in its loosest form. They may not be living in the biological sense, but the robotic wildlife of Horizon Zero Dawn and its sequels rival the fictional wildlife in any game in design alone.

Taking the form of animals, plants, and dinosaurs; these machines have taken over the world at large, reducing humanity to various small tribes. It is impressive how well the game makes robots feel like living breathing animals that you would find in any hunting or similar wildlife game. At times, you'll forget that every enemy you face is all steel and circuitry.

6 Glavenus - Monster Hunter Series

The Monster Hunter series is long-running, with fans taking the hunting genre to a whole new level, chasing down larger-than-life creatures - and then the creatures that prey on those creatures.

Why hunt deer or even bears when you have creatures like the Glavenus that make it so much more challenging? There are a wide variety of creatures in the Monster Hunter series, but few embody the game like the Glavenus does. Its reptile-like form, its size, and the fact that it has a sword for a tail all make for a dynamic and unique animal.

5 Skaggs - Borderlands Series

Borderlands 3 Rabid Skag

Life on the Borderlands of the galaxy is a rough one. Only the toughest people can survive, and that goes for the animals too.

Skaggs are one creature that call many of the planets of Borderlands home. There's a good reason why they're so plentiful in such harsh environments: they're just as harsh. Sharp teeth and fangs, hostile to intruders, and able to eat almost anything. Plus, they seem to be able to evolve into larger and sometimes elementally charged versions of themselves given enough time.

4 Spriggan - Skyrim

Skyrim has some of the best nature scenes in the entirety of The Elder Scrolls series, which includes both flora and fauna. It really embraces what can be done with fantasy.

Speaking of both flora and fauna, the Spriggan is both, and one of the best fictional wildlife seen in the game. Granted, it is far more humanoid than the usual bears and foxes, or even dragons for that matter. But, they are definitely wildlife. In fact, they're one of the purest embodiments and protectors of wildlife in Skyrim.

3 Chocobo - Final Fantasy Series

The Final Fantasy series has been around for decades. With any fictional universe that has gone for that long, there is sure to be a favorite animal, and there are a few to pick from here.

Well, none are as lauded as the humble Chocobo. It's sort of a mix of bird and horse, and while they're used from anything as pets, pack animals, and fighting mounts, fans everywhere have fallen in love with the avian creatures that call Final Fantasy home. Why not take some time to enjoy the wildlife in-between dynamic fights?

2 Deathclaw - Fallout Series

Fallout 4 Deathclaw Standing Up And Looking At The Player

Post-apocalyptic America may not be the best for meeting friendly wildlife, but the animals that call it home are definitely unique. Perhaps none of the animals in the game are as instantly recognizable as the Deathclaw.

Anyone who has played a Fallout game has a story about these creatures. Usually, one that ends badly too. And to think they started off as a simple chameleon, before they were horrifically genetically re-engineered.

1 Pokemon - Pokemon

You can't talk about fictional wildlife without considering Pokemon, and for good reason. They've been around for decades, with fans constantly falling in love with the new designs.

No matter what generation is your favorite, most people who have played or watched Pokemon at some point in their lives has a favorite one - or multiple since it can be so hard to choose. Each of them has some connection to our world, and while some are a little farfetched they all seem to interact with each other in a way that makes sense even now.
