The world of Faerun can be cruel and dangerous for children, even if that child's ancestry is from the Hells. There is a young Tiefling boy in Baldur's Gate 3 that is doomed to die by harpies unless you step in and save the day.

This will be your first time seeing a harpy in the game, as there are no other harpies within Act 1. They are a challenging foe, and they hide in an obscure location that you wouldn't go to if you didn't hear that strange singing. Here's how to save the Tiefling boy from the harpies.

Investigate The Beach Quest

This hidden quest is found behind the Druid's Grove. Near the stairs, where Volo was talking to the bear, there is a beaten path that goes behind the grove.

Once you start walking in this direction, you will hear strange singing in the distance. You should allow your ranged characters to sneak ahead and take a position on the cliffs to your right before engaging.

You will find a young Tiefling boy entranced at the beach shores by a single harpy. This will start the quest Investigate The Beach.

There is nothing you can say to him, and you will initiate a fight. More harpies will spawn.

Defeating The Harpies

Useful Tools:

  • Grease
  • Silence
  • Fog Cloud or Darkness

To keep the boy alive, you should always focus on whichever harpy is singing their luring song.

There should only be around one or two singing at a time. You will know which one is singing by the purple aura around them and the Luring Song buff on their health bar.

When you stop a harpy from singing, the Tiefling boy will snap out of it and attempt to flee.

Keep at least one person close to the boy to protect him from harpy attacks while the others keep a good position. Abilities that stun, daze, or blind harpies will be super beneficial here.

To stop a harpy from singing their Luring Song, you can throw Grease or use Fighter abilities to knock them on their feet. This stops them from singing, and another harpy will pick up the song.

All the harpies will be performing ranged attacks for the most part, so using Fog Cloud or Darkness to blind them will prevent further dismay.

By keeping the enemies blinded and unable to act, the Tiefling boy will not be harmed, and your party can stay relatively healthy.

Rewards

Upon saving the boy, he will tell you to say a special phrase to Doni. Doni is another Tiefling child in the grove near the cows. The special phrase allows entrance to a hideout full of kids.

Saving the Entranced Child makes you good in Mol's books, allowing you to trade from her and go in and out of the hideout with free will.

There are hidden treasures in this area. Once the harpies are defeated, you should ransack their nest. From the hill, they were originally on, walk around the shore of it.

With succeeding Perception, you should find a spot to dig up a chest using a shovel. Continue around the hill and walk across the water, heading South.

On that small island, use Jump to access the next piece of land to the right. Follow the land until you see a very tall hill with the harpy nest atop. Use Jump to access the nest.

The harpy nest will contain Bones, a Ring of Colour Spray, and a Bloodstone.

There is one other hidden chest in this area. It is located just before the harpy-infested cove. When you first enter the back of the grove, instead of going down to the shore, you can head left, where you will find some broken stone pillars.

This chest contains 50 Gold and a Ruby Amulet.

You can use Jump to cross the pillars, and with succeeding Perception, you will find a chest.
