Venice Beach is Dead Island 2's Hell-A hallmark. The area is jam-packed with interesting locations, such as the death pits and military quarantine zone we will visit in the main story to travel to Santa Monica. Venice Beach features three main story missions, albeit rather short missions. However, the story has some big revelations and great characters to meet.
Until now, it's been plain sailing with the odd boss and zombie swarm thrown into the mix. However, with the Fury Mode recently unlocked, Dambuster Studios ups the ante and throws more zombies at you. Crusher Apex Zombies are found frequently in the Venice Beach area and are the main antagonists to the survivors taking refuge in the Blue Crab Grill.
How To Complete The Giant-Slayer Quest
The Giant-Slayer main story quest begins straight after the Red Mist quest. Alex reveals that he was friends with many of the gym bros before they turned into roided-up zombies. He will ask you to help put Dillon and Moose out of their undead misery and explains that you'll find them at the gym southeast of the Blue Crab Grill and north of the Police Department.
Search The Gym For Moose And Dillon
Arriving at the gym, you must clear out Walkers, Runners, and Crushers before opening the gym interior.
Consider killing walkers before the quest to fill your Fury Mode meter so you can activate it and kill the Apex Zombies.
Once you've killed all the zombies in the area, you can search the gym's interior by interacting with the shutter. This will trigger a cutscene of Patton and the headless undead corpse of Moose and his discovery of mutated Zombie Parts, unlocking Autophage skills and new potent crafting mods.
Discovering that Moose is no longer walking among the living. Your next objective is to find Dillon and travel west along the promenade. Another Hell-A tremor will trigger once you've walked by enough storefronts.
You'll approach a parking lot between Jo's Rentals and the Ice Cream Parlor, where you'll have to fight a swarm of zombies, including Slobbers, Bursters, and Spiky Runners.
Kill Dillon
Walk through the parking lot to the other side and jump over the fence using the bin as a step-up. At the back of the Gang Green Store, another tremor will trigger, causing the wall to the road above to collapse into the area triggering Dillon the Inferno Crusher to spawn.
Dillon is the first Inferno Crusher you will encounter in the game. Dillon is especially dangerous as explosive barrels and spilled oil surround the ground. If Dillon steps on the oil, he will cause a massive explosion that will knock you to the floor.
Inferno Crushers are immune to fire, so the environment only hurts you and the other zombies that spawn in the area excluding firefighter zombies. To kill Dillon, we recommend using a combination of Chem Bomb and Electric Star to extinguish the fire on his body and stun him in place, allowing you to land free attacks without being attacked yourself.
Inferno Crushers can ignite their fire after extinguishing the fire on their body.
Once you kill Dillon, return to Alex, who will thank you for helping him, and conclude The Giant-Slayer Story Quest, rewarding you with the Rare Melee Cremator Mod.
How To Complete The Beach Offensive Quest
Now that Venice Beach is a little bit safer, you'll either have the option of pressing on to the Military Outpost or helping Trent collect some weapons in the Cold Pork Side Quest. In Beach Offensive, you will take on more zombies than ever due to the quarantine zone spewing zombies into the area.
Into The Militarized Zone!
Enter the Militarized Zone; the entrance can be found close to the shoreline.
Walking there, you'll encounter several broken-down Humvee trucks with lots of ammo, so loot these when you can.
The Military Outpost is heavily infested with zombies, but you can't immediately run through the quarantine corridor to the Venice Beach Tower. The area has been put in lockdown, with most doors inaccessible.
You will need to lift the lockdown by retrieving the Lockdown Code; you can do this by entering the Command Tent within the Barracks area of the base. To get the walk towards the beach past the mess area and jump over the fence marked by a crate.
Search The Command Tent For The Lockdown Code
Inside the barracks, you will see a bunch of tents. Enter the Command Tent and search for the Lockdown Code, a Lockdown Protocol journal entry. You'll find it on top of a computer desk in the back right of the room.
Find Hicks
The Journal states that Lt. Hicks is the only soldier with security clearance to lift the lockdown in the event of a lockdown. With this new information, leave the Command Tent and walk into the tent passed the portable toilet. You will find Hicks' Bag in the tent and a photo to inspect.
This will prompt a new objective to locate LT. Hicks, who can be found inside a portable toilet. Kill him and loot his dog tags. Now you can open up the barracks area to the Military Outpost main entrance. However, this will trigger a swarm of Runners, Screamers, and Crushers to spawn, so ready your weapon.
During this fight, throw a Curveball at the Screamer to interrupt their screams while you fight the Runners, as the Screamer will attract more zombies to the area.
Head Through The Quarantine Corridor
With the zombie swarm defeated, it's time to venture through the Quarantine Corridor. A long narrow corridor filled with zombies. You can easily get caught out by zombies spawning behind you, so check your six while running down this area.
You must deal with zombies spawning from the sand and a Screamer. It can be a struggle to kill the Screamer as it will have a bunch of Walkers in front of it. The narrow corridor makes it hard for you to maneuver around; however, use the old Chem Bomb Electric Star combo to stun the groups of zombies, which will chain electricity to the Screamer.
You must activate a quarantine lock at the end of the corridor. You will have to wait for the gate to rise. You'll have to fend off any zombies that spawn behind you during this time.
Once in the airlock, activate the lever to lower the gate behind you. You can't open the gate in front of you until the gate behind has closed. However, as soon as the gate rises, you can walk through it, even if it's only lifted off the ground.
How To Complete The Final Gauntlet Quest
The Final Gauntlet is where the actual zombie slaying test begins. You have two choices now that you've reached the Venice Beach Tower area. Either carry on with the story. Or meet Warrant Officer Rodriguez. Regardless of your choice, you can spawn at the Venice Beach Tower or Blue Crab Grill when you return to Venice Beach.
W.O. Rodriguez will warn you of the upcoming Quarantine Corridor. It's infested with hundreds of zombies on either side of the corridor's fence. As a result, you'll have to fight a small army worth of zombies in this area.
Fight Through The Final Quarantine Corridor
The final Quarantine Corridor easily has the most zombies you'll have encountered in the game so far. To make matters worse, you will have to fight a ton of Riot Gear Walkers, making maiming weapons useless since you'll spend more time swinging at them while swarms advance behind them.
To get through this area, use your explosive Curveballs such as the Pipe Bomb. The Chem Bomb and Electric Star combo is always a great trick. However, it won't be able to keep all the zombies back.
If you completed the Cold Pork Side Quest, you would have got your slayer hands on the Assault Shotgun, a powerful weapon for this area. If not, there is a Machine Pistol near the workbench on the second floor of the Venice Beach Tower.
Fighting your way through the horde, Crushers will begin to spawn. However, the upcoming area has pools of water that the zombies must tread in to get to you. You can use this to your advantage by electrifying the water with an Electrocutor modded weapon or Electric Star.
Kill The Zombie Horde
Once you reach the end of the Quarantine Corridor, you will have one more zombie swarm to fight off before advancing to Ocean Avenue. However, you'll have to face Crushers, Screamers, and Slobbers simultaneously.
We recommend activating Fury Mode if it is available for this area. You can kill the Screamer fast and dodge the Slobbers' projectiles. Once you've killed all the zombies, travel to Ocean Avenue and Serling Hotel.
Check-In At The Serling Hotel
Ocean Avenue is even more dangerous than Venice Beach. The built-up area is home to many zombies, and arriving at the Serling Hotel, you must clear out several zombies at the entrance while unlocking the shutters.
Walking into the hotel will open up to a three-story shopping mall infested with Firefighter zombies, Runners, and a Slobber. You must get to the third floor to reach the Serling Hotel survivors and Dr. Reuben.
To get to the second floor, walk up the stairs on the right. You must fight to the opposite side of the shopping mall floor to reach the next set of stairs. Once you've reached the third floor, hop on to the opposite side of the floor to reach the Ocean Avenue survivors and conclude The Final Gauntlet story quest.
