Starship Troopers: Extermination requires good awareness, base-building skills, FPS skills, and above else, teamwork to carry out a successful mission. The Arachnids of Valaka are aggressive and have a seemingly endless number of bugs in their army. You'll need to quickly master your roles and Trooper class to survive on a Veteran mission.
You can choose from three classes to combat the bugs, all equipped with unique equipment and abilities. A well-rounded team balanced with Operators, Hunters, and Bastions will keep the war gears grinding, whether from reviving troops, fortifying areas, or taking ground with the fast mobility of the Hunters.
Starship Troopers: Extinction is in Early Access, so information in this guide is subject to change.
Is The Hunter Class Right For You?
The Hunter Class is your run-of-the-mill, run-and-gun assault trooper, perfect for taking objectives and assaulting enemy territory. Equipped with a jetpack and the fastest sprint speed of all troopers. Hunter-class troopers are best used for escorting troopers carrying ore and gas from refineries to the base.
The Hunter is a perfect class if you enjoy fast-paced gameplay and being in the heart of the battle.
Despite the Hunter being specialized for fast mobile gameplay, the class features fewer weapons than the Operator or Bastion. The Hunters can only unlock the Morita Mk 1 Carbine and Morita Mk 3 Hawkeye. However, expect this to change in future updates.
Evasion And Maneuverability
Although the Hunter has fewer weapons to utilize in battle, it doesn't make them less effective than their counterparts. The jetpack allows the Hunter to evade Bugs when overwhelmed and reach vantage points safe from harm's way and out of reach from melee damage, making Hunters proficient in operating the Pilum Rocket Launcher.
All troopers must attempt an extraction at the end of a mission, whether they've succeeded or failed in their objectives. Extraction sites spawn far from the ARC base; this mission section is chaotic and exciting as troopers attempt to flee the ever-growing Bug horde.
Hunters surpass Bastions and Operators in extraction as their jetpack and fast sprint speeds significantly increase their survivability.
It's encouraged to cover your fellow troopers during extraction, as all players will gain an experience bonus from the number of successfully extracted troopers. As the Hunter, you can use your jetpack to fly to the high ground safe from Arachnid reach and stagger Bugs back from your squad mates and team.
Hunter Perks And Utilities
The Hunter Class lacks in weaponry choice and perk choice as well, while you'll have the option to equip your Operator and Bastion trooper with two perks from a total of six.
You only have five perks to choose from as a Hunter. Remember that Starship Troopers is in Early Access, and new perks will be released to fill in the locked "In Development" gaps.
Pain Booster is the Hunter's first unlocked perk which greatly increases survivability by increasing the trooper's speed when attacked by a Bug in melee combat.
While bastions can survive Bugs that get too close by activating Seige Mode, they can't fully rely on it due to its cooldown time. As a result, The Hunter has one of the best perks to escape Arachnids early in the game.
Is The Operator Class Right For You
The Operator is the leading support class in Starship Troopers: Extermination. If you enjoy healer roles, then the Operator class is for you.
Equipped with a medical UAV, the Operator can activate the UAV during battle to revive nearby downed troopers. The Operator is the perfect class to choose if you enjoy playing the objective and support roles in FPS games.
This is due to the Operator being able to carry an ore or gas canister on their back, granting them the ability to shoot while delivering resources to the base.
Since you'll be playing the objective more than the Hunter or Bastion class, you'll earn much more experience at the end of matches. The Operator can revive over twenty troopers a game contributing to their gained experience.
Operators are essential in successfully completing a Veteran mission as the health and attack damage of Arachnids has significantly increased. Making you a pivotal trooper on the battlefield. Playing the Operator, you'll be integral to maximizing trooper extraction.
Since the UAV is fully autonomous, you can activate it during extraction and revive players without sacrificing mobility from manually reviving troopers, which is near enough impossible for other classes without dying themselves.
High Damage Output
At present, the Operator class is arguably the most overpowered of the three classes as you not only have extraordinary healing abilities from the UAV and First Aid Stim but also enormous damage output as the Operator class can unlock a Grenade Launcher, which can one-shot warrior drones and quickly kill Gunners that pick off your fellow troopers.
If you enjoy sharpshooter weapons and sniper rifles, then the Operator class is for you.
The Operator unlocks the TW 202-L Morita Hawkeye rifle as its first weapon, a high-damage accurate sniper with more than enough rounds in a clip to kill Arachnids at range and in close quarters.
Gunner Bugs pose a big threat in battle as they can rip through idle troopers that stand still, making manually reviving troopers a real pain. However, the Hawkeye and SAW are realistically the only standard weapons that can take them out due to Gunners usually sitting back at range.
Operator Perks And Utilities
Operators unlock the Powered-Up-Build-Tool Perk as their first perk, which doubles the speed of building and repairing structures—a perfect ability for building base defenses awaiting the Arachnid horde after retrieving all Gas Canisters.
Playing as the Operator, you won't be running out of ammo as much as the other trooper classes as you'll be able to deploy the Ammo Fabricator, equipment that allows yourself and fellow troopers to resupply.
Is The Bastion Class Right For You?
The Bastion Class is ideal for those who love hunkering down and unloading an LMG into the Arachnid horde. The Bastion is a heavy infantry class focusing on laying down suppressive fire and killing many Bugs simultaneously. The Bastion class is an excellent choice if you prefer light machine guns and armor over mobility and speed.
It's perfect for those who get a kick out of setting up defenses.
Playing as the Bastion, you'll get a unique perspective. While Operators and Hunters run and gun for objectives, you'll set up defenses to help them complete them by covering troopers and objectives. This can often leave you alone at a refinery or a base.
Since the Bastion is equipped with Heavy Armor and features the Seige Mode, you'll have more significant defenses during extraction; however, you're also the most at risk. You should constantly look for good spots to activate Seige Mode.
Morita Mk. 3 SAW: The Bastion's Trophy Weapon
The Morita Mk. 3 SAW is the trophy weapon of the Bastion and one of the most iconic guns of the franchise, a monster of a gun that loads 150 rounds at a time, making it the most reliable gun for taking out giant swarms of Bugs.
However, don't expect to infinitely rain down fire on the Arachnids. You can run out of ammo after a singular swarm of Bugs, and its recoil is abysmal without Seige Mode.
You won't be able to run and gun like a Hunter or Operator, and you'll struggle if your fellow troopers don't place Ammo Fabricators down for you. As a result, matches can be hit or miss, depending on the support of your team.
High Defense Seige Mode
The Bastion can enter Seige Mode to deploy a circular shield that increases weapon stability and the trooper's defenses against Arachnids. The recoil from the Morita Mk. 3 SAW is near impossible to control, but firing under the effects of Seige Mode allows you to keep the gun stable and hit targets at long range.
Although the Bastion can use the Morita Mk. 1 and Carbine variant, the SAW will be your primary weapon in battle. As a result, the class at present has less variety than the other classes.
Since the Morita Mk. 3 Saw is the only viable weapon. While playing the Bastion, you will constantly be eyeing your Seige Mode cooldown. As a result, this makes it hard for you to stay mobile. You can find yourself useless in a fight if you can't deploy your shields.
Starship Troopers: Extermination is built around teamwork, and while you can run off as a Hunter, you must stick with troopers as a Bastion. Setting up multiple Bastions in Seige Mode is not only effective but very fun.
Bastion Perks And Utilities
While perks overlap between the three trooper classes, the Hardened Ceramic Armor perk reduces ranged attacks by 50 percent and can only be unlocked by the Bastion. Gunner Bugs pose a significant threat to troopers on the battlefield. Their ranged plasma attacks can wipe out a squad of troopers caught out in the open.
A Bastion can easily take out a Gunner and take less damage from their attacks thanks to the Hardened Ceramic Armor and Heavy Armor passive.
The Magazine Bandolier is the Bastion's next perk, unlocked at level seven. It increases the number of carried weapon magazines, an essential perk for the Bastion, as you'll frequently run out of ammo. Unfortunately, you'll have to wait until level 20 to unlock Extended Magazines.
The Bastion won't be a class for you if you are a mobile player. However, this doesn't mean you can hunker down in one spot before obtaining the Extended Mags and Magazine Bandolier.
