Minecraft players have been using the new armor trims to make the helmets from the hit franchise Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Armor trims are a brand new feature in the game, having just been announced for Update 1.20, currently scheduled to release at some point later this year.
Minecraft is a sandbox game which allows players to build and create their own virtual worlds. The most impressive aspect of the game is of course the creativity of its players, many having used the famous building blocks to create incredible structures and designs. This naturally includes the numerous TMNT builds along the lines of the recently invented helmets.
TMNT is a popular media franchise with its origins in a comic book series released back in 1984. The characters Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Donatello are four teenage turtles who have been mutated into humanoids and trained in the art of ninjutsu by their teacher, Master Splinter. The franchise consists of multiple animated and live-action television shows, movies, and games.
When it comes to the helmets, a few players have already been experimenting with the accessories, but most are eagerly anticipating this brand new crossover with TMNT. “You’ll be able to try out armor trims in this week’s Java Snapshot,” the official announcement about Update 1.20 explains. “We are working hard to get them into Bedrock betas and previews as soon as possible, so stay tuned.”
Armor trims are basically “patterns for your armor that allow you to personalize your armor, add flair, and show off your Overworld travels!” According to developer Mojang Studios, these come in 11 different patterns that can be dyed in 10 different colors. In order to trim a piece of armor, players “need to hunt down a smithing template, a new required ingredient for making upgrades at the smithing table.” These can apparently be “found all over the worlds of Minecraft.”
Minecraft players have been taking inspiration from TMNT for years, using the building blocks in the game to create some pretty incredible builds. These range from accurate replicas of the iconic lair to entire cities inspired by the famous franchise. Some have even created custom skins and mods to make their Minecraft characters look like the eponymous turtles, helmets now included.
