Whenever Genshin Impact sees the release of a new area, there are a few World Quests that come along with it. Some of these quests start when you reach a certain part and unlock a puzzle. Capturing Light And Shadow is one such quest, and you can find it in the Veluriyam Mirage area.
Released alongside the Secret Summer Paradise Event, this is a time-limited area that can only be explored during the Version 3.8 update. If you've found the cave that unlocks this quest and got stuck at a certain part, here's how you can easily finish it.
How To Unlock Capturing Light And Shadow Quest
If you want to find the mural puzzle and get a ton of Primogems, you'll first have to start the first part of the Secret Summer Paradise quest and reach the Veluriyam Mirage. This requires you to at least finish the Mondstadt Arc of the main story, and ideally progress up to the final quest of the Sumeru Arc.
Once you're in the area, you have to head to the southern portion. You'll go there naturally if you follow the event quest, but it won't take you directly to this cave. In the south portion, you'll see a green line starting near the river and going underground. The underground part of the line is dotted on the map.
You'll have to finish the second event quest to access this part since you need to learn how Choo-Choo Carts work.
When you get to the green line, you'll be able to summon and ride the cart into the cave. It'll directly drop you on the underground Teleport Waypoint. Activate the Waypoint and head up the stairs to start the quest and find the mural in front of you. It'll be a big mural with many shapes on it.
How To Fix The Mural
Drop down from the platform where the quest starts and you'll see a water droplet (Hydro Eidolon) in the middle. As you get close, the game will zoom in on the droplet and you have to follow it. It'll unlock a common chest and go inside the Choo-Choo cart nearby after you claim the chest. This cart will take you to a Preprint and activate the first shape of the mural.
You'll also find the first part of a diary right beside the chest you claimed, and it'll tell you about the story of an artist who thought that he was too good for the people around him. You'll find a total of four pages as you solve the mural, and you can read them if you'd like to know more about the Mirage's lore.
Once you activate the first projector, the blue icons will highlight the other three you need to activate. You'll also see a common chest surrounded by a bunch of Fungi near one of the projectors. Right beside this chest, there'll be a dropdown with a Hydro Eidolon surrounded by a couple of Hilichurls. You'll also find the second part of the diary near this chest.
Defeat the Hilichurls and follow the droplet below. Instead of going directly to the cart, it'll go all the way down first. While you're following it, a bunch of Hilichurls will spawn in your way. Defeating these Hilichurls will unlock another hidden chest and also allow the Eidolon to move again. It'll then go to the cart and you can follow it through to activate the second Preprint.
Once you open the second projector and go up with the cart, you'll see some stairs on your left. Follow these stairs and you'll find a screen blocked by a yellow aura. On the left of this aura, you'll see a path with a bunch of mushrooms on it. Follow this path to find an Eidolon covered by three torches.
You have to extinguish these torches using the Hydro element and the Eidolon will start moving downward. You'll also find the third part of the diary near the droplet. While you're following it, it'll open another chest and then teleport past two walls. You can use the grapples above these walls to get past.
You can find another common chest in the middle of these gates. It's hidden behind some crates but you can easily see it while falling.
The Eidolon will then stop in the middle and you'll have to defeat the nearby Hilichurls to make it move again. Once it moves again, you'll find the Choo-Choo cart and ride it back up to activate the third Preprint. Keep an eye around for another Eidolon on your way as you'll need it for the next part of the quest.
If you don't remember the Eidolon's location, get on the path you just took with the cart and follow it backward. When you get near the droplet, it'll unlock the nearby exquisite chest and start moving to the left. On the way, you'll see some boxes with notes in them, and one of them will be sparkling. You'll find the fourth part of the diary here.
The next area will be blocked by a door, and you'll see three Hydro pillars. One of these pillars will be behind some bars, and you won't be able to activate it even if you use a bow character. Activate the other two pillars and the Eidolon will automatically activate the third one. You'll have to defeat a few more enemies and follow the Eidolon to the bottom part.
Here, you'll see another three pillars. Ask the Eidolon to go to the Hydro one and activate the Cryo and Pyro one as fast as possible. It'll then activate the Hydro pillar and you can go forward. You'll find the Choo-Choo cart past this to activate the final Preprint.
Once all the Preprints are activated, you just have to head inside the mural and place the items in the correct positions.
Remember that a path to the fourth item on the top-left will unlock after you place the other three correctly.
Solving the mural will get you a luxurious chest with a ton of rewards and also make the Eidolons happy.
