Unique items can provide powerful effects to supplement a number of builds in Diablo 4. Whether they're essential for your chosen build or grant a nice additional bonus, Unique items are worth searching out after the leveling process slows down and you start to move into the endgame.
The Penitent Greaves provide a nice mix of Crowd Control and damage boost, making them great choices for almost any build in the game. Below, we'll take a look at how to get the Penitent Greaves, and what their Unique effect is.
Penitent Greaves Unique Effect Explained
The Penitent Greaves are Unique Boots that have the following special effect:
You leave behind a trail of frost that Chills enemies. You deal [7-10]% more damage to Chilled enemies. |
With these boots equipped, you'll leave behind an icy trail that will inflict Chill on enemies that move into it. Plus, you'll gain increased damage against enemies inflicted with Chill.
These boots work best with classes that can utilize Chill or Cold damage, like Sorcerer or Rogue. However, the Penitent Greaves can work well on any class, providing extra Crowd Control and damage to all enemies.
How To Get The Penitent Greaves
Unique items can drop from almost any source in the game in World Tiers 3 and 4. This means you'll need to clear the Cathedral of Light Capstone Dungeon and enter World Tier 3 before you even have a chance to get the Penitent Greaves.
While in World Tiers 3 and 4, these Unique boots have a random chance to drop from almost anywhere you can get items. The best ways to target farm the Penitent Greaves is through the Tree of Whispers, choosing Boots reward caches when available, or Helltide event chests, choosing Tortured Gift of Protection when you can.
Besides that, you'll just have to get lucky. Luckily, the Penitent Greaves aren't one of the seven Uber Uniques with extremely low drop chances, so you're likely to get the Penitent Greaves eventually through regular play.
