The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom brings back a lot of classic enemies. Among them are Like Likes, gluttonous tubes which will lash out and eat you if you try to run under them. While in the past, the Like Likes different forms have been based on eating items - regular Like Likes eat shields, Rupee Like Likes eat rupees, etc. - this time they're based on the different elements.

You'll find five different Like Likes scattered across Hyrule and in the Depths, each presenting different challenges that you must face before killing them. But not all Like Likes are created equal. Those elemental powers really give them an advantage.

5 Like Likes

Tears of the Kingdom Like Like outside of Hyrule Castle

The OG Like Like. This enemy has been appearing in games since The Legend of Zelda dropped in 1986. The Like Like is fairly basic - weak to most elemental things as well as bombs, drops a bundle of arrows and a Like Like Stone when it dies, as well as a chest that usually contains some kind of shield.

While they're not overly special, they are numerous. Like Likes are the most common enemy among the Likes, appearing commonly in caves and on the sides of walls in abandoned structures.

They're not bound by the environment the way other Like Likes are, and that compatibility makes them dangerous. Make sure you look around every corner, and at every ceiling.

They'll lie in wait until you run under them, then - chomp! Say goodbye to your shield.

4 Ice Likes

Tears of the Kingdom Ice Like in the Gerudo Highlands

The Ice Like spits out balls of ice, which will freeze you on contact. This can be doubly dangerous, as it does damage, then leaves you frozen and vulnerable to any other monster. One hit and your health will shatter like ice.

You'll mostly find these icy enemies in the Gerudo Highlands and Mount Lanryu. Unlike its elemental brethren, its attacks won't cause you to lose your weapons, which makes it just a little easier than some of the others.

But its line of ice balls will follow you as you try to run, making it hard to escape, and if the ice catches you, you'll be frozen for several seconds while you furiously wiggle your joystick trying to get free.

Once you get an opening, shoot a fiery arrow at it to momentarily stun it so you can run it and widdle down its health. You'll get an Ice Like Stone, Ice Fruit, a bundle of arrows, and a chest.

3 Fire Likes

Tears of the Kingdom Fire Like in a cave

The polar opposite of Ice Likes. These Likes will really burn you if you're not careful.

They're most often found in the Eldin Mountains, especially in the hotter areas around Death Mountain. Seasoned players will know not to equip anything wooden before they rush headlong into the mountain, but that's something you'll definitely want to keep in mind when encountering a Fire Like - remember, just because they're mostly found in one place, that doesn't mean they never appear in other places!

They'll puff out rolling balls of fire to try and keep you at bay. They're fairly slow fireballs, but they'll follow you as you run, making them difficult to get around.

You can try to run away, but you want to stay close enough that you can get to it when you stun it and knock the tongue out. You'll be best served using an iced fruit to temporarily put it down and take it out.

And for your troubles, you'll get a Fire Like Stone, Fire Fruit, a bundle of arrows, and a chest.

2 Rock Likes

Tears of the Kingdom Rock Like in a cave

Rock Likes are tough - both literally and to beat. They blend into their rocky surroundings, staying almost invisible until you get hit by the rock it spits. Finding them in caves can be especially difficult and a little disorienting. What's even worse is that they're protected by their rocky armor.

The easiest way to take them out - once you've figured out where they're hiding - is to use Recall to send the rock they spit out rolling back at them. However, if you're not quite used to quickly switching between hand functions, you can also always wait for it to take a brief from spitting rocks, then hit it with a fiery arrow or bomb arrow to stun it.

Its droppings aren't anything special - a bundle of arrows, a Like Like Stone, and a chest, just like a regular Like Like. But it's harder to beat, and that makes it special.

1 Shock Likes

Tears of the Kingdom Two Shock Likes in a cave

Easily the most difficult of the Likes. While the other elemental Likes will spit things out at you and cause you damage, the Shock Like's electricity attack takes it a step further.

Like other electric attacks, you'll take damage and drop any metal equipment you have. That's inconvenient at the best of times, but having to scramble for your weapons and re-coop before the Shock Like attacks again.

The easiest thing to do is equip wood weapons, but you can't always predict when they're coming. They're most abundant in the Gerudo region, hanging out in caves and abandoned buildings, and while they're not around every corner, they can be around any corner.

Be quick to switch or risk getting zapped. Swap into the rubber suit to prepare yourself.

Your best bet will be bombs or fiery effects to stun them, so make sure you're stocked up before you go adventuring into the desert. For your troubles, you'll get a bundle of arrows and shock fruit, along with a dropped chest.
