For those who skipped it, Rashis is Street Fighter V's central protagonist. In that game, his most notable trait is his incredible versatility. This is still true of his Street Fighter 6 iteration. While his standard movement speed does feel a touch slower this time around, they compensated him for that speed reduction by giving him even more tools to play with. And when those tools are utilized effectively, he feels as fast as ever and even more dangerous.

'But what tools does Rashid have?', you ask. Well, the better question is, what tools doesn't Rashid have? The answer is a command grab and a dive kick, but we were being rhetorical. Shut up. *clears throat* Rashid has a roll that goes under projectiles. He has an invincible reversal. He has multiple approach options from the air, making him hard to anti-air. He has a projectile that can be used to control the air and that can be charged to increase its power. He even has an air grab! Needless to say, Rashid is a fighter with an excellent range of attacks that will leave your rivals feeling confused and overwhelmed.

Rashid's Move Breakdown

Spinning Mixer

Street Fighter 6, Rashid's Spinning Mixer

⬇️↘️➡️ + P

The Spinning Mixer is the crux of Rashid's gameplay. It is multifunctional, acting as combo filler, while also being a strong anti-air. When using it as an anti-air, you are going to want to use the heavy version if they are above you, and the medium version if they are coming down in front of you. Of course, your best option is the OD version, which has invincibility. So, if you have been knocked down, and you want to disrupt your opponent's meaty, or if you are being pressured and just want to get people off of you, the OD version is your best bet (unless your opponent is directly above you, then you still want to use the heavy version).

The heavy version of the Spinning Mixer will even hit cross-ups. That is exceedingly rare.

The light version, on the other hand, does not work well as an anti-air, but it is relatively safe, and combos off of light normals. You can combo this light Spinning Mixer into his Altair (⬇️↘️➡️⬇️↘️➡️ + P) super attack. Taking a quarter of your opponent's health as a reward for hitting a crouching low kick is pretty nice.

If you perform a light Spinning Mixer while there is an air current down, the Spinning Mixer will travel across the entire screen and is completely safe.

Eagle Spike

Street Fighter 6, Rashid's Eagle Spike attack

⬇️↙️⬅️ + K

This is Rashid's best move for approaching opponents from a distance. The light version is the quickest to come out; it doesn't travel nearly as far as the other two versions, but it starts up fast enough to combo off of. The heavy and medium versions will bounce off of a blocking opponent, giving you enough distance that it can be hard-to-punish on block.

You can use the heavy Eagle Spike to harass opponents at a distance the same way E.Honda and Blanka can. Though, you need to be careful, if you get too predictable they will start fishing for that perfect parry. Also, while Rashid does get quite some distance when this move is blocked, he is still left in a state of recovery, so fast moves with great range can punish him.

The OD version of the Eagle Spike will side-switch and pop your opponent up into the air. This will allow for a follow-up spinning mixer, it is also an excellent way to get out of the corner and put your rival there instead.

It is worth noting that if you use the Eagle Spike while in contact with a whirlwind from his Whirlwind shot, the Eagle Spike is completely safe on block.

Whirlwind Shot

Street Fighter 6, Rashid's Whirlwind Shot

⬇️↘️➡️ + K

This is Rashid’s projectile, and it has a lot of unique stuff going on. For starters, this is a chargeable projectile, so the longer you hold it, the harder it hits and the more times it will hit.

But that isn’t the Whirlwind Shot’s sole quirk: it also arcs upward. The light projectile stays horizontal the longest, acting more like a traditional projectile, while the heavy version travels vertically much quicker, making it good for batting opponents out of the air. This means that Rashid won’t be as capable of engaging in full-screen projectile wars. However, the ability to charge the Whirlwind Shot makes his projectile game pretty strong mid-screen.

If you catch an opponent with a Whirlwind Shot as they are jumping, you will be able to follow up with an Eagle Spike. The timing is tricky, though. The OD version, with its shorter start-up and long range, is the easiest to land.

It is also worth noting that the OD version of the Whirlwind Shot hits two times, travels completely horizontally, and will pop your opponent up if it hits them. The popup becomes more pronounced if you charge this attack. If hit by a fully charged OD Whirlwind Shot, your opponent will be vulnerable for long enough for you to punish them even if you hit them from the other end of the screen!

But we're not done talking about the Whirlwind shot, yet! If you fully charge it, there will be a whirlwind left behind, performing Rashid's Spinning Mixer or Eagle Spike while in contact with this wind current will buff them substantially.

Arabian Cyclone

Street Fighter 6, Rashid's Arabian Cyclone wind current

⬇️↙️⬅️ + P

This move places a whirlwind in front of Rashid. On a basic level, this acts as a shield. However, there are also three follow-up moves associated with this attack that really help it stand out...

The Wing Stroke (⬅️ + K) gives Rashid an aerial dash. This dash is pretty low to the ground, and you can use any aerial normal to cancel it at any time, making it a useful tool for landing a quick aerial overhead. It can also be used to skip over certain low-to-the-ground projectiles!

You can also use your Arabian Sky High (J.⬇️↙️⬅️ + K) move to add some extra jumps on top of the dash. Scary.

The Rolling Assault (➡️ + K) follow-up, on the other hand, will skirt you under high projectiles and will help you maintain pressure. A blocked heavy Arabian Cyclone can be made safe if you follow it with the Rolling Assault. This is going to be one of your go-to pressure tools.

Lastly, there is the Nail Assault (K during a Rolling Assault) follow-up attack. This is a launcher that is hard to punish if you connect with the very tip of the kick. Generally, you don't want to use the Nail Assault follow-up if the Rolling Assault can get you close enough to hit with a jab instead. However, the Nail Assault does have decent range, and it can be very useful for punishing a fireball you just rolled under.

Finally, the OD Arabian Cyclone will leave a whirlwind behind, allowing you to power up your Spinning Mixer and Eagle Spike attacks.

Arabian Skyhigh

Street Fighter 6, Rashid's Arabian Skyhigh double jump

⬇️↙️⬅️ + K

The Arabian Skyhigh serves two purposes. For starters, it acts as a double jump. You know, because Rashid needed more mobility in the air. The second purpose is to act as an aerial attack.

If you use the OD version of this attack, and the first part connects with your opponent, it will immediately lead to a second hit that knocks your opponent down while also leaving you right next to them. Meaning that Rashid is put into the driver's seat and gets some premium oki. Oh, and that follow-up attack also hits surprisingly hard.

Rashid's Bread And Butter Combos

Street Fighter 6, Rashid landing his OD Spinning Mixer

Cr. LP, Cr. LP, Cr. LP, Light Spinning Mixer (⬇️↘️➡️ + P)

This is a truly nasty little combo that also acts as a ready-made frame trap. It is super quick and will leave you nose-to-nose with your opponent, while also having frame advantage. That means that you can keep looping it as long as you are clipping your opponent.

If you have your level 3 super on deck—Altair (⬇️↘️➡️⬇️↘️➡️ + P)—you can also land it from this combo. However, you need to land it on the first hit of the Spinning Mixer, so you need to be sharp!

Lastly, a sneaker version of this would be Cr. LK, Cr. LP, Light Spinning Mixer (⬇️↘️➡️ + P). It doesn't give you as many confirms as the light punch version, but the Cr. LK will hit low, making it a good option to catch people who aren't protecting their toes.

Blitz Strike (J.⬇️ + HP), OD Arabian Sky High (J.⬇️↙️⬅️ + KK)

It may only be two hits, but it hits extremely hard, and it will provide you with oki. You won't have time to see if the Blitz Strike lands or not before you input OD Arabian Sky High as you need to input the Sky High the instant you connect with the Blitz Strike. However, even if it is blocked, you will still be perfectly safe.

J. MK, Cr. MP, MP Spinning Mixer (⬇️↘️➡️ + MP)

This is a standard combo you can land off of your J.MK cross-up. However, you can replace the J.MK with a J.HP or a J.HK for more damage. If you use this attack in the corner, you can add an OD Spinning Mixer (⬇️↘️➡️ + PP) in after the MP Spinning Mixer (⬇️↘️➡️ + MP).

Blitz Strike (J.⬇️ + HP), J.HP, HP, MP Spinning Mixer (⬇️↘️➡️ + MP), OD Spinning Mixer (⬇️↘️➡️ + PP)

[CORNER ONLY]

This is one that you will have to practice a little, but it will take about a third of your opponent's health away, and it only costs two bars of Drive Meter. This only works in the corner and is just a taste of the kind of nasty things Rashid can do to you once he has you there.

Rashid's Mobility Options

Street Fighter 6, Rashid using his front flip

The name of the game here is mobility. Rashid has a truly staggering number of attacks, buffs, and techniques that in one way or another provide him with a litany of unique mobility options...

  • He can cling to walls with his Wall Jump.
  • His Side Flip (➡️ + KK) will pass through opponents (though it has no invincibility frames), and inputting this move a second time results in the Front Flip (➡️ + KK) which launches Rashid across the screen.
  • His Blitz Strike (J.⬇️ + HP) is a heavy strike that will use your opponent's head to leapfrog to the other side of the screen.
  • If Rashid holds forward while dashing his dash will turn into a run. His Backup (➡️ + P) attack will turn his run into a sliding attack which, if it connects, will side-switch.
  • His OD Eagle Spike (⬇️↙️⬅️ + KK) also side-switches on hit.
  • Jumping through a wind current will give Rashid a super jump that will launch him to the other side of the screen.
  • Wing Stroke (⬅️ + K) is an air dash you can perform from the Arabian Cyclone (⬇️↙️⬅️ + P), while Rolling Assault (➡️ + K) is a roll you can perform off of the Arabian Cyclone.
  • Finally, his Arabian Sky High (J.⬇️↙️⬅️ + K) acts as a double jump.

And a number of these can be paired, and comboed, together. As an example, you can use the Wing Stroke (⬅️ + K) attack to dash forward in the air and then, mid-dash, use the Arabian Sky High (J.⬇️↙️⬅️ + K) to perform an additional jump afterward. You can land the Blitz Strike (J.⬇️ + HP) and then, mid-air, follow up with the Arabian Sky High, and potentially bait out a reversal. The options here are truly staggering. Rashid has a lot of shenanigans he can get up to.

Rashid's Corner Escape Options

Street Fighter 6, Rashid sliding underneath Lily

One last note about Rashid's options here is that his moveset is both shockingly good at putting his opponent in the corner, but also letting him get out of it. Not only does he have a true frame-one-invincible reversal with his OD Spinning Mixer (⬇️↘️➡️ + PP), but he can side-switch with both his OD Eagle Spike and his Backup (➡️ + P) follow-up to his run. Moreover, he can simply jump out of the corner by getting a wind current out and simply jumping. If you have the meter, a costly, but effective, way to get out of the corner is to use his Ysaar (⬇️↙️⬅️⬇️↙️⬅️ + K) super, as it will lock the opponent down and let Rashid jump away to safety.

Rashid's Game Plan

Street Fighter 6, Rashid's Blitz attack

Rashid is an extremely explosive character that excels at both controlling the air and traversing it. In general, Rashid's mobility in Street Fighter 6 is on another level. There is a reason Rashid's mobility options have an entire section listed above. Once you get a feel for these unique abilities, you will want to apply them frequently. Rashid is at his best when he is unpredictable. You will want to be using the Arabian Sky High (J.⬇️↙️⬅️ + K) midair to double jump, creating wind currents with your Whirlwind Shot (⬇️↘️➡️ + K) to super jump through, utilizing the Wing Stroke (⬅️ + K) air dash follow-up from the Arabian Cyclone (⬇️↙️⬅️ + P) attack, using the Blitz Strike (J.⬇️ + HP) to hop over your opponent... you get the idea. The more unpredictable the better!

One of the most important elements here is to get a feel for the spacing of these abilities, as once you have a good idea where you will land, you can start to hit Rashid's J. MK cross-up pretty consistently.

When you aren't hopping all over the place, you will be trying to get those wind currents down. You can do this with a fully charged Whirlwind Shot (⬇️↘️➡️ + K) or by using an OD Arabian Cyclone (⬇️↙️⬅️ + PP). An Eagle Spike (⬇️↙️⬅️ + K) that passes through an air current will be completely safe on block, as will a Spinning Mixer (⬇️↘️➡️ + P). If you score a hard knockdown, it is a good idea to start charging a Whirlwind Shot so that you can get a wind current down. Especially if you have your opponent is in the corner. If they look to be waking up with a button you can release it early and punish them with the projectile.

Street Fighter 6, Rashid's crouch medium kick

Speaking of the corner, getting an air current down will allow you to create a substantial amount of pressure. Mix in Spinning Mixers with Blitz Strikes and throws. You should be able to create a series of hard to punish sequences that force your opponent to keep blocking. Do this enough and you will eventually open them up. Especially if you use Rashid's excellent Cr. MP. This attack is fast, acts as a great anti-air, and is safe on block. So, feel free to throw this out without much thought. If you land it, you can finish with an MP Spinning Mixer. Rashid's Cr. MK is also a nice rangy normal that hits low and leads into most of his specials, so this is another normal you should mix into your routine.

You will want to be pressuring your opponent at all times, and from all the different angles, with Rashid. That is how he wins.

Dealing With Projectiles

Street Fighter 6, Rashid landing a fully charged Whirlwind Shot

But what if your opponent has a strong projectile game? Well, Rashid's projectile having an upward angle means that he can't engage in full-screen projectile wars. However, his mobility options do help him get around projectiles, and once he is half-screen away from the plasma chucker, he becomes more than capable of fighting a projectile war. For starters, a fully charged Whirlwind Shot (⬇️↘️➡️ + K) will beat every non-OD projectile at mid-screen. Plowing through the fireball and hitting your opponent.

Better yet, if you put down his OD Arabian Cyclone (⬇️↙️⬅️ + PP) the cyclone can delay a projectile as your roll under with the Rolling Assault (➡️ + K). The main thing you need to worry about here is the startup of your attacks. Timing is everything, and a faster-moving projectile may be able to catch you during the startup of both your Arabian Cyclone and your Whirlwind Shot. Keep in mind that a fighter can't throw out a second projectile while the first one is still on the screen, so hopping over a projectile may just give you the time you need to get your game started.

Rashid doesn't have a catch-all option, but by using the Arabian Cyclone and Whirlwind Shot alongside his mobility options you can absolutely fight back against long-range zoners. And once he is in, Rashid can start to pile on the pressure and make his opponent's life a living hell.
