This year's Final Fantasy 14 Fan Fest took place in Las Vegas yesterday, in which director Naoki Yoshida (also known as Yoshi-P) took to the stage to announce the game's next big expansion. However, the trailer for Dawntrail wasn't the only big talking point after the show. Shortly after the trailer went live, Yoshi-P revealed that the expansion will bring with it two new DPS jobs, one melee and one ranged magical.
In true Yoshi-P fashion, he didn't name these jobs outright, but instead decided to reveal his shirt that he'd been concealing since the show began. In case you're unaware, Yoshi-P likes to wear shirts to big announcement events that hide some kind of clue to future updates. For example, he wore a Batman shirt to tease the addition of the Dark Knight job. This time he revealed a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem shirt, and the fan theories have been flowing pretty much non-stop ever since.
Fan seem to be in agreement that this shirt is teasing the two new jobs considering Yoshi-P revealed it right after talking about them. What they can't agree on is what these jobs could possibly be, as everyone has different theories and are reading different meanings into certain words and weapons featured in the shirt.
One popular theory for the melee job is some kind of dual wielding pirate or corsair, given that the Dawntrail expansion is clearly going for a tropical theme. Other things that point to this is Leonardo being front and center of the shirt, the turtle that duel wields katanas, as well as the fact that the turtles are ninjas, a job in Final Fantasy 14 that uses scouting gear.
The caster job is where things get a little wild though. Some think that the shirt could be hinting at the introduction of Green Mages, simply because the turtles are green. Others think that because the turtles are named after famous artists like Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, the Pictomancer job could be added.
Then you have completely unhinged theories like a possible Necromancer addition. The TMNT: Mutant Mayhem movie recently brought back the "I like turtles" meme kid as a viral marketing stunt, who just so happens to be wearing zombie face paint. Like I said, pretty wild stuff, but we'll have to wait to see who's theories are correct, if any at all.
