Hollow Knight fans have been itching for a new game for a long time now, and the wait's only going to get longer as Hollow Knight: Silksong's indefinite delay means we likely won't see it launch until 2024 at the earliest. That doesn't mean fans of the original game are running out of things to do though, as a community of dedicated modders have been adding extra content for while, and their latest project could easily pass as an official expansion.

On July 1, a massive group of modders finally released their Pale Court project (thanks GamesRadar), a pretty beefy expansion that adds tons of new content to the base game, along with a boss rush that has you take on the "Hallownest's greatest champions" in an attempt to "take your rightful place among them". These bosses are completely brand new and built from scratch by these modders, but an impressive amount of work has been done to make them look the real deal.

On top of that, the Pale Court expansion also adds a bunch of new charms that you can use across the base game, though you may want to avoid them if you don't want to upset the balance. There's also brand new music, art, voice lines, dialogue, and pretty much everything else needed to make the update one of the most impressive fan made creations since the game was released. At the very least, it should scratch an itch while we continue the long and arduous wait for Silksong's official release.

If you want to download the Pale Court update and play it for yourself, be aware that you'll need to jump through a couple of hoops to install it properly. First, you need to actually install the mod itself, which you can find here. You'll also need the Scarab mod manager to install the update, the latest update for which you can find here. Once you have both of those properly set up and installed, you can jump into some new Hollow Knight content, albeit fan made.

It's come at the right time too, as Hollow Knight fans are starting to lose their patience a little bit, and are resorting to drastic measures to try and lessen their desires for Silksong. For example, take this one fan who recently started making their own version of Silksong, sharing their fairly impressive creation that took just a few days to develop. Something tells me that they might need a bit more time to fully recreate Silksong though, so maybe it's just better to wait for the actual game.
