Released in 2012, Barbie: Life In The Dreamhouse was a webisode series centered around the adventures of Barbie, her family, and her friends. What made this show so unique was how it presented itself. The cast was completely aware that they were dolls, there were reality tv show-like interviews and asides spliced into the footage, and the characters would often get into unexplainable escapades such as panicking over a glitter shortage or trying to escape Barbie’s sentient closet.
This series was fun, quirky, and filled with many lines that fans still quote today. Whether you have watched the episodes or are just curious about how wacky the scenarios could get, here are the best quotes from Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse.
10 Being Barbie’s Boyfriend Is My Calling!
Ken has always been Barbie’s biggest fan and biggest supporter. But, in Occupational Hazards, a comment from his rival Ryan has Ken testing out different careers to prove he's worthy of the title "Barbie's boyfriend." However, each one of the jobs Ken tries out is interrupted by his “Barbie Sense” going off.
Towards the end of the episode, as Ken sadly laments his work prospects, Ryan swoops past him and attempts to woo Barbie. Suddenly, Ken’s “Barbie Sense” is triggered, and he triumphantly realizes that “Being Barbie’s boyfriend is [his] calling.” With his confidence restored, Ken throws Ryan out of the Dreamhouse and onto the curb.
9 I Think My Outfit Is Pretty Gorge
Raquelle is Barbie’s self-proclaimed rival who has one goal in life: beating Barbie. Spoiler alert: she often fails at this task thanks to her own bad luck and Barbie’s Barbie-ness. But, in Bizzaro Barbie, Raquelle does get her chance to bask in the spotlight. As funny as it was to watch Raquelle hang out with alternate universe version of her frenemies, it’s the beginning of this episode that showcases Raquelle’s famous quote: “I think my outfit is pretty gorge.”
What makes this line so comical is how flabbergasted Barbie, Nikki, and Teresa all look after Raquelle speaks. They even try to correct her, asking if she meant “gorge-a-licious” or “gorge-tastic.” But no, Raquelle meant gorge. And ironically, the word manages to catch on by the episode's end.
8 Vengeance!
Life In The Dreamhouse goes out of its way to remind you that Barbie is perfect while Raquelle is… not. But that doesn’t stop Raquelle from trying to beat Barbie. And in the episode Perf Pool Party, Raquelle attempts to steal the thunder from Barbie at the blonde's pool party. She vows to do this, then yells “Vengeance!” before rushing offscreen.
What's notable about this line is that it comes completely out of left field. One moment, Raquelle is sitting down with her unevenly spray-tanned legs, the next, she has her arms raised and is running away. Oh, Raquelle, you might not always win, but you always make your fans laugh.
7 You’re Fully Articulated?
It’s hard to believe that there was a time when Barbie wasn’t fully articulated and couldn’t even properly bend her knees. But, in a Smidge of Midge, fans were presented with a blast from the past. When Barbie's best friend Midge is first introduced, she is shown not only in a 1960s style of dress but also completely in grayscale. If it wasn't already obvious, Midge is a complete fish out of water.
Naturally, she makes a lot of mistakes, and after accidentally causing a cupcake machine to go haywire, Midge finds out that Barbie has full articulation. Midge's exclamation of “You’re fully articulated?” is followed by her hilarious demonstration of her limited movement. Barbie sure has come a long way!
6 Whole Wheat? You Know I Don’t Eat Spicy Food.
If it wasn’t already obvious, Midge is a bit old-fashioned. Even after her Malibu makeover, she is still the same Midge on the inside. You're reminded of this in the episode, Another Day at the Beach. Here, Barbie attempts to get Midge and her sportier friend Summer to hang out with mixed results. It’s when Barbie gathers them for lunch that this hilarious quote happens.
When Barbie offers Midge a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on whole wheat, Midge replies, “Whole wheat? You know I don’t eat spicy food.” Seriously, you can’t help but laugh out loud when statements like that are said.
5 Patented Makeup Bazooka
Skipper is the second-oldest sister in the Roberts family (yes, Barbie’s last name is Roberts). Often seen on her phone or tablet, Skipper is portrayed as the typical teenager. But in Help Wanted, it is revealed that Skipper is actually an inventor. After being fired from multiple jobs, Barbie offers Skipper work at her own shop. While there, Skipper creates several different style gadgets for which Raquelle unwillingly becomes the guinea pig. One of Skipper’s greatest creations? Her Make-Up Bazooka.
Skipper’s line of “Relax, it’s my patented make-up bazooka” is immediately followed by Raquelle receiving a messy face full of lipstick, blush, and eyeshadow. Luckily, Skipper fixes it. Unluckily for Raquelle (and Ken), Skipper Jumbo sizes the weapon at the end of the episode.
4 That’s A Closet Full Of Handsome
How old is Barbie? That’s a question that the entire cast wonders in Gifts, Goofs, Galore. While struggling to get Barbie the perfect birthday gift, each one of her friends comments on how they’re not entirely sure how old Barbie is turning. Though Teresa's and Nikki's lines can easily make this list, the real winning quote happens to come from Ryan.
When Ryan presents his gift, a cardboard cutout of himself, to Barbie, she's quick to show him a whole closet filled with cutouts that she's received on previous birthdays. Before Ryan can even finish counting them, Barbie quickly closes the door and walks off. Leaving Ryan to remark that, “That’s a closet full of handsome.”
3 Kelly, Right?
Did you know that Barbie’s littlest sister used to be called Kelly? The Kelly name was discontinued by Mattel in 2010 and the Roberts family quickly introduced Chelsea as their youngest sister the following year. Moving forward, the company seemingly scrubbed all memory of Kelly away, but Life In the Dreamhouse didn’t quite forget about this name.
In the episode Sour Loser, Raquelle greets Chelsea, who is selling lemonade, with fake sweetness and the statement of “Well, if it isn’t my favorite Barbie sister. Kelly, right?” To which Barbie’s sister responds with a deadpan, “It’s Chelsea.” This fun callback really establishes that the Life In The Dreamhouse writers knew their Barbie history.
2 I Sensed Tension
In Let’s Make A Doll, Midge, Nikki, Teresa, and to a lesser extent, Raquelle all compete on a game show Skipper created to find out who Barbie’s best friend is. In the episode’s beginning, Midge and Nikki are initially at odds and get into an argument over who Barbie is going to hang out with.
After a tense glaring match, the sound of tires screeching is heard off-screen and is quickly followed by Raquelle sprinting into the Dreamhouse, claiming that she “Sensed tension and came as fast as [she] could.” The ridiculousness of Raquelle knowing where and when the drama was happening makes this quote not only easily memorable but also very gif-able.
1 It’s Probably Not Me
The best quote from Life In The Dreamhouse once again comes from the episode Let’s Make a Doll and is once again said by Raquelle. As the argument over whose Barbie’s best friend comes to a head, the camera cuts to Midge, Nikki, and Teresa, each claiming to be Barbie’s BFF with a loud “It’s me!” before cutting back to Raquelle.
Raquelle is shown gleefully recording the entire interaction on her phone. But, when she notices that the camera is focused on her, she very bluntly states that “It’s probably not me.” The simplicity of this line, coupled with how utterly uninterested Raquelle is, makes it easily one of the best quotes in the entire show.
