The Witcher Season 3 is now available for your viewing pleasure, with the second half of the season expected to drop later this month. Those who watch the show will probably know that Season 3 will be Henry Cavill's last appearance as Geralt of Rivia, as it was announced last year that Liam Hemsworth will be taking over the role from Season 4 onward, a strange decision that has angered a large majority of those that still kept up with the show, as many are now boycotting Season 3 in protest.
It's not only strange because Henry Cavill made a decent Geralt, but it's also strange because he was recast before his final season even aired. Not only that, but Netflix is making its decision to announce Cavill's departure early even stranger with a series of very odd Witcher advertisements it's projected onto several buildings and landmarks around the world. The advert simply reads "Yes, he's still Geralt in Season 3" along with a couple of standard logos and the name of the series.
It's a bizarre set of advertisements, once again bringing attention to the controversial decision it made last year while simultaneously acknowledging the confusion it caused in a cheeky way that fans of the show will have little patience for. At the very least, it comes off as a little bit desperate, as if Netflix knows Cavill's departure is going to hurt the show and is attempting to stop the flow of fans that are leaving alongside him. The fact that Netflix thought fans needed a "reminder" speaks volumes about how things are going at the moment.
You'll also probably be unsurprised to hear that the first half of Season 3 hasn't gone down well with fans either, as the roasting began last month when they got upset over the show's character costumes in a trailer shown off at Summer Game Fest. Despite a planned boycott and the promise of "no hate watching", the Witcher subreddit is full to the brim with angry fans taking offense at lore changes, Jaskier's bisexuality, the writing, and pretty much everything that isn't Henry Cavill slicing up a monster.
The second half of Season 3 is set to release on July 27, after which Henry Cavill will finally be hanging up his silver sword. I'll see you all then, after Witcher fans inevitably get upset once again after having promised not to watch until Cavill comes back and writes the show himself.
