Five Nights at Freddy's just dropped a brand-new trailer showing off more of the animatronics, Mike Schmidt watching the security footage like in the games, and what looks like a Saw trap, but what has fans excited is a surprise appearance from YouTuber Cory Kenshin. He appears right at the end, driving a car with Freddy Fazbear in the backseat.
Cory Kenshin joined YouTube back in 2009 and has amassed over 16 million subscribers in the 14 years following. He started with comedy sketches but blew up after playing horror games like FNAF, Outlast, and The Evil Within. One Google search of his name and you'll find a wall of FNAF videos, so it's only fitting that he's not just in the movie, but shares a scene with its most iconic animatronic.
Not much is known yet about his character or who he's playing. It might simply be a cameo, but from what we do see, we know he's a cab driver who picks up Abby Schmidt (played by Piper Rubio) and Freddy, asking them "Where to?" He then looks back and says, "Why do I always get the weirdos?" You can see it at the end of the trailer below.
Fans immediately exploded with excitement. This scene confirms a rumour that has been swirling all year. There was a mix of disbelief, celebration, and some wondering whether other iconic FNAF YouTubers like Markiplier will also star in the film, though it's worth noting that he is currently turning indie horror hit Iron Lung into a movie.
Kenshin hasn't said anything himself yet, but other YouTubers like indie horror news reporter Jonny Blox were quick to cheer on the reveal.
The trailer also gave us our first look at Springtrap, the main villain of the third game. Lore-wise, they're an earlier design of Bonnie (which earned them the nickname Spring Bonnie). However, their appearance complicates things--how can Springtrap and the Purple Guy (AKA William Afton, played by Matthew Lillard) coexist? Springtrap is a villain because it's possessed by Afton's spirit, who is in turn a vengeful serial killer.
When he went to disable the animatronics at the restaurant, the five children he murdered scared him into hiding in the faulty Springtrap suit. It crushed and killed him. Since the trailer shows both characters, with Schmidt seemingly getting his job from Afton directly, it's unclear whether Springtrap's origins will be changed. It might be that Springtrap's origin has been merged with the first game's story. We'll have to wait and see.
